If this is your first contact lens fitting, know that you are in good hands with us at River City Vision Center in Jacksonville. If you are tired of wearing glasses or need contact lenses for an occupation or lifestyle, you will need to have them fitted to your specific eye shape and size. You will also need to have contacts for your specific prescription. This is why contact lens fittings are so necessary. During your fitting, you will understand how to care for your lenses and how to use your contact lenses properly. Our optometrist will help you understand the importance of hygiene and proper care for contact lenses.
Contact lens fitting ensures your new contact lenses are comfortable and accessible. Having contact lenses that you can feel is distracting and discomforting. It could even be dangerous. This is one reason why it is so important to only purchase contacts through companies our doctors approve. Buying contacts from different retailers can result in an eye injury or infection due to various materials used in certain contact lenses.
It’s important to understand that everyone has different eyes. We will measure your eyes for pupil size and corneal curvature at your consultation. This will help ensure your contacts sit comfortably in your eyes. To do so, our optometrist will have to measure the surface of your eye. The instrument used to measure this is called a keratometer. After this, our doctors will then calculate the size of your pupil. After measuring your eyes, our doctor will need to evaluate the amount of tear film in your eyes. If your eyes are too dry, wearing contacts may be a problem for you.
Our optometrist will give you a trial pair of lenses after your contact lens exam. During this visit, a technician will teach you how to insert the lenses, remove them, and how to clean and care for the lenses properly. If you are considering trying contact lenses or need a contact lens checkup, visit us at River City Vision Center in Jacksonville for professional eye care.
